Spring 2008

Ventura - Gold Coast Open

Well Ventura beat us to it!! There are having their first $5,000 shoot coming up in October. Really stoked they have put this effort into making this happen and they REALLY need ALL of our support. I hope to see at least 10-15 SB players go down for this 2 day shoot. We can get a few carpools going and it should be a blast.

So get a partner now and plan on going. The flier can be viewed HERE

Cup Playoffs

Wow, that was a LONG season!!! But we made it though and now it's time for the CUP playoffs. These will go quick with only 9 teams. Immediately following the Cup finish we will have a BBQ on Saturday September 6th at the James Joyce.

So take a look at the playoff schedule on the final BULL. Have fun and get ready for the next season as we will have little to no break at all!! Get your teams together NOW!

SBDA ALLSTARS vs VENTURA

The SBDA Allstar shoot against Ventura is quickly approaching. The match will be held on Saturday August 9th at the Benchwarmer in Ventura. The top 10 players in MVP Points will be chosen. The AVERAGES are what is looked at before total points. This is the only fair way to not have a top player who can't play as much miss out on playing with the team.

I will begin calling and e-mail people very soon. I will want at least 12 players to come with us as we always need more than less and it's good to rotate some guys in and out as needed.

So crank up those MVP's if you're on the cusp. Should be a fun time as always. Let's bring home the trophy again!

BBQ Awards Picnic

We have tentatively set a date for our Annual BBQ Awards Picnic. Since we will be finishing the Cup Playoffs on Tuesday August 19th we will have the picnic on Saturday September 6th. We would have it the weekend prior however that is Labor Day Weekend. We plan on doing what we did last year and have it at the Joyce. If someone has a better idea, please chime in. We have time to make a change. Again we will have a keg of beer and do a BBQ for everyone. We will give out all of the trophies and also have a annual meeting.

PLEASE, we need everyone to consider whether they want a trophy or not this year. Money is very tight and to be honest, I think most people don't need another thing to clutter their house and have to dust. I strongly encourage you guys to have a board made up like the one I started a few years back (PICTURE BELOW). It helped eliminate over 30 trophies in my house and is SO much nicer and neater. You can take the plates off of all your old trophies and add them to it. Each year you can then get a plate or two to add to it.

Here we go again!

Well unfortunately we have lost yet another team. This season has been the worst ever as far as team staying together and being focused on completing a season. I guess we made this season a little too long this time! Next year we will make it shorter. But the Cliff Room is now out. All future games against them will now be BYES. I went through all of the score sheets and deleted those games that were played against them for only the 2nd half of the season since everyone had already played them once. I did NOT delete any trophies thrown during those nights of play but your individual points were deleted as well as team for that night played. Really sorry we had to do this.

So let's finish up this season and then we will have the CUP playoffs. The BBQ and Awards party will be held during August sometime. Stay tuned for that. I think we will be doing it at the Joyce again unless someone has a better idea.

Make Up Matches

Looks like most of the make ups have been done now and I know at least one more will be done next week. But for those teams who may have postponed a match recently you really need to maker sure to get it DONE QUICK! NO Make Ups are allowed after the Tuesday of 3 weeks remaining in the season (July 15th). There are no exceptions to this rule. All matches that have not been played will then result in a forfeit to the team that requested the postponement. Hopefully everyone will get them done and not miss out on a night of playing.

We will have the Cup Playoffs immediately after the conclusion to season play.

Also, the All Star match is coming up against Ventura August 9th. The top 10 players based on MVP points (averages considered before total points) will be asked to be on the team. We will more than likely need a few extra players as well.

So build up those averages these final 6 matches to help get on the team and help us retain the coveted All Star Trophy!

SPORTSMANSHIP!!! PLEASE READ

It has been brought to our attention that there are certain people who are not abiding by the Sportsmanship rules set forth in our bylaws. Sportsmanship not only includes a hand shake or fist bump prior to a game and afterwards but it also includes taunting and distractions while someone else is shooting. IT IS NOT ALLOWED for ANYONE to disrupt a player while making there shot by either verbal taunts or physical acts to distract someone. If this happens to ANYONE in the league during the course of play you can ask the person to please stop or you may tell them their team will forfeit the match and lose all points for that night. NO ONE should have to put up with any BS during the course of play. If I hear one more instance of this occurring during play, the person or team will be banned from any future play!

Bull

Well the bull has been a little messed up lately but I think it's all straightened out now. With all of the late arrivals of score sheets and having a team drop out half way through the season it's no wonder that everyone's scores just didn't go all the way back to zero and your statistician didn't send in his letter of resignation! Ahhh, but now everyone seems to be getting the sheets turned in to me in a timely matter. Hope it lasts!!

With the long season leads to teams having a hard time to make every match. We now have 3 make ups for the WaNKer's that need to be done, 2 because the opposing teams couldn't make it and now one from last week where they couldn't. Going to be some serious cramming in of games to get them all done. And the Bull will change drastically as they get those games done so don't get too comfy in your position!!

Keep those score sheets arriving NO LATER than Thursday.

Thanks!

Dickweeds Drop Out

Unfortunately the Dickweeds have had to drop out of the league. Due to an illness of one member and also another getting a new job it forced them to have to throw in the towel. Mark Ellenberger and Dave Moitis are now available as subs though. Please call them if you need someone as they both want to keep playing.

What does this mean to the league???? Well it means an extra BYE for all teams. But it also means that if you played the Dickweeds already it's as if you never played that night. I did not remove any trophies if you hit one against them but all individual points earned on the night playing them have been taken away as well as the team totals. It's the only fair way to do it. Sorry if that was your huge night!

All totals on this weeks Bull reflect the new totals.

Scores Sheets

For some reason this season has been the worst in teams getting their score sheets turned in on time. I have had to wait until almost 4 pm on the following Tuesday sometimes to get them and I have had to e-mail people every week asking for them. Same thing this week as I just got some yesterday and still waiting for one this morning. Not waiting anymore.

Score sheets are due in NO LATER than THURSDAY following the match. I'm going to start doing the Bull every Thursday evening regardless of having all of the sheets. You want to see your scores, get them turned in on time. Doing the Bullshooter each week takes me about an hour and I can not sit around waiting for people to turn them in as I have to travel for work etc...

Thanks for your cooperation

T80 Mug surcharge

We have been debating what we can do as a league in order somehow pay for all of the trophies we hand out each and every year. We only charge a total of $35 a person to play in the league and yet we hand out a total of approx $1600 a year in trophies. Add in any new T80 mugs and that cost goes up approx $55 per mug!!! That can add hundreds of dollars every season! In addition we throw a big BBQ party and that adds another $500 to the total.

We are asking each and every player to seriously evaluate whether they actually NEED a trophy they earn. What I started doing about 5 years ago was just getting the tiny engraved plaque that would have gone on the hardware and I made up one large plaque that I add to each and every season. It takes up WAY less room and to be honest I really DON'T need trophies cluttering up the house.

So think about maybe just getting the little plaque and starting a larger one for your own. Please let us know.

As for the T80 mugs, we may be asking for $$ from any new player who is wanting to get one this year. Possibly $40. We would cover the extra $15.

Dues Due!!

OK everyone, cough it up! Team dues were due the first night and not one team paid up. I e-mailed most of the captains or at least one team member on each team to tell them to mail a check to Andy. Hopefully everyone will do that instead of forgetting to bring a check each week and not knowing whether you will actually see Andy anyway. $140 per team. Divide it out among your team however you want.

Week #1 Complete

We're off and runnin'! Although some of you said it was kind of short notice (even though the start date had been posted on the website for 3 weeks), most all of the matches were played without a problem. We did have one match that needs to be rescheduled but with 5 months ahead there is plenty of time to have that match made up.

There are LOTS of opportunities for you all to be practicing on other nights besides Tuesday nights! Ed Farr is still holding a Blind Draw every Monday night at the Maverick in Santa Ynez. Thursday nights we have another Blind Draw at the Alisal Cellars in Solvang. So come on out to one or both of these fun nights of extra darts.

Enjoy the rest of the season!

New Spring Season Finally Starts!

Well after a long break we are starting up the new Spring 2008 Season. We had lots of things to work out with new teams and venues. But the good news is we are ready to go. We have a new team out of the Cliff Room on the Mesa. I'm sure most of you know where it is. We also have a new venue in Solvang at the Alisal Cellars. Now before you start to bitch about that it will mean NO more driving up than you did in the past. We have just moved one team (The Terribles now called WNK's) over to the Cellars. The Mavericks will remaining at the Maverick Saloon.

The new schedule has been posted. There is a printable version available at the bottom of the schedule.

So blow that dust off your darts. We're startin' up tomorrow. There are 11 teams this season and everyone plays everyone twice. This means you will also have 2 Byes during the season.

OK everyone, enjoy tomorrow eve. See you all soon.
