Fall 2011

John Lowe Exhibition

Well there are very few chances dart players in California have a chance to not only meet one of the great Legends in the game of darts but also have a chance to play against them! And that chance was this past Saturday down in Thousand Oaks. Such a major disappointment to see the lack of support from the Southern California players. I thought I would see at LEAST 200 people in attendance but instead saw maybe 50 people there. And to see only Kevin Kennedy and myself attend from Santa Barbara was a major let down too. I would have thought at least another 5-8 guys from SB would go. Oh well!

Well Kevin and I were rewarded for going in that we both got to play John. And the entire event was broadcast live on the net. The set up that David Irete had was VERY impressive! They had 5 different cameras, big screen TV's showing the feed, a live radio broadcast too. Pretty amazing.

What they say about getting nervous while playing a televised event is true! All my T's and T40's I had during warm ups quickly turned into 45's during my match. My highlights were a 95 and an 86. Other than that, very lack luster. The funny thing is I still had many shots to beat John. I think I threw 7 darts at an out. Just couldn't take it and John hit double 1 to win. Kevin's match was much better played but he still lost as well. John on the day had 5 T80's, one game back to back. All games were 701. I think John played 20 guys and he lost 3 games.

A really fun time was had by all. I'm hoping we will get to see a DVD of the event. If and when I get that I will make sure to share.

11/29/11

Well, kind of a slow season so far. Not much to report as we only have 6 teams this season and with holidays and breaks we have only played 4 weeks. I have updated the Tourney section of the website though because there are some big events upcoming. One is the Gary Hooper Memorial shoot in Parker Arizona this next weekend. This is a 1st Annual shoot so I bet there is a good chance to go and win some $$!! Not many people will know about this one yet. If you got a wild hair and some cash and time, go for it!

The other big event is the John Lowe Exhibition. This is being held on Saturday December 10th at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks. The event starts at 2pm. If you are interested in getting a chance to play against John I heard there are some qualifying tourneys that Ventura is having. Contact Clen at the VCDA for info. The following day the MLD will be having a shoot at the same location. The flyer is posted under the Tourney section.

That's it for now. If your team hasn't paid up yet for the season, please pay Andy asap. Also, if you haven't gotten me a team pic yet, please send me one.

Welcome back everyone,

This season we have only 6 teams, therefore we will play everyone twice, home and away.  If you look at the schedule, we have included some weeks for ADO Qualifiers. These are not mandatory but should be attended to support those who want to advance to the Regional level. It is a great way to get some serious practice against other league players.  We have also included the 2 tournaments that take place during the season. The San Diego Memorial Tournament November, 4-6 and the Las Vegas Open, January 27-29.  Book your rooms now. We will continue to post upcoming tournaments and include them in the schedule when applicable.

Those of you who play out of the James Joyce, as I said at the BBQ, there are not enough boards to play league on. The SBDA will not be purchasing new boards (we only have 6 teams to collect dues from). Therefore I strongly suggest each team purchase their own board and markers.  It is not the bars or the leagues responsibility to have quality boards to play on. If not, play on the bar boards.

                                                                   That’s it for now.

                                                                   See you on the oche,

                                                                                       Erik
