SPRING - FALL 2005

(7-17-05)

2005 Awards BBQ

Well, the 2005 awards BBQ has now come on gone and I think I can say for everyone that it was a great time for all who showed up. unfortunately not everyone was there but those who were were treated to some great food and a fun dart tourney afterwards.

Some big changes were made during the annual meeting and most of you will get a full report in the coming months on all of the things decided and voted on. I was consuming quite a bit from the full flowing keg so not everything is logged perfectly clear in my memory but I do know a few highlights to make note of.

First off, we have a new President. Erik Schiefen has stepped down and after a vote at the BBQ, Rob Washburn is now our new President! I'm sure he will do a fine job delegating and helping resolve unhappy issues throughout the year. Somehow I became Secretary once again and will also run the website. David Valentine had had enough. Vice Prez is now David Valentine. Andy Clare remains treasurer. ADO rep is now Erik again.

Other things decided...we will have 13 games a night. We will only play for the Cup once a year (at the end of Spring). Ahhhh, I forget the rest! Stay tuned for more details.

The BBQ was awesome. Thank you to Mark and Janice for letting us take over their house. It was a great time. The tourney afterwards was also a lot of fun. Coming down to the end it was Mick Farrell and Ricky Rhiger vs Phil O'Neill and Wayne Breault in the finals. GREAT games even though wind played havoc! Mick and Ricky had to beat Phil and Wayne twice. They did it with a win in the first best of 3. Then in the second, Phil and Wayne drank more beer! After an unbelievable shot at the board with help from his loud flatulence, Mick missed a shot and left it open for Phil to use his own loudness to distract Ricky. Funny stuff. You had to be there. But in the end Phil and Ricky came out on top with the $80 pot. Mick and Ricky walked with $60. Great time for all. Even the dead last team got $5 each.

If you weren't there, what were you thinking??????

Dennis Priestley Exhibition huge success

Last night we had our 3rd straight year with a live exhibition with the great Dennis Priestley and it was by far the best one yet. Moving the event to a Tuesday night was a fantastic move and proved to be the charm for making the exhibition a lively and well attended event.
Dennis once again showed why he is a world champion as he proceeded to not lose one leg the entire night. I do have to say that Dennis wasn't  in the same form as last year but I believe that is simply because none of us challenged him like we did last year. (Last year Dennis threw 12 T80's!!!) Had our darts been up a notch I'm sure he would have been more merciless on the board. Dennis did manage 3 T80's on the night and threw a 13 dart game and 2 14 dart games. He also took some outs with great flare taking 80 out in 2 different games with double 20 double 20 and just missed twice at a 125 out with all bulls.
22 players in all took a chance at beating Dennis and had Dennis been willing to go more games, we could have had another 10 easily.
We hope that Dennis will be back to visit us again in the coming years as everyone I talked to had a great time. Keep your eyes and browser tuned to the PDC website next week to follow Dennis in his progress to becoming Las Vegas Desert Champion. All of the results for each days events will be available at http://www.planetdarts.co.uk/index.asp

The pictures I took of everyone last night are now available under the photo tab to the left.

Clem from Ventura league also took some photos. You can see them at http://darttalk.blogspot.com/

See you all there

Dubliners win Cup

Once again, the Dubliners win the Cup. They defeated Dargan's last Tuesday night in the final game. Apparently it was a very close match and came down to shots at the outs for both teams but after a couple of misses by both, John Craig stepped up and hit the final out. The Cup will be at the James Joyce for another year.

Dennis Priestley Exhibition

It's once again that time of year that all of the best dart players in the world converge on Las Vegas for the Desert Classic for the week of July 4th. We have been very lucky for the last 3 years to have one of the world's best dart players come and join us at Dargan's for a live dart exhibition and give any and all dart players a chance to play him head to head. Yes, fresh off his recent win in Montreal Dennis Priestley will be here again!

In the past we have always done this on a Saturday afternoon. But we thought that maybe it would be even better and give more of you a chance to not miss this very unique opportunity by having it on our regular dart night! This way no one has to miss out on a beautiful day at the beach. Tuesday nights were made for darts!

So mark your calendars now!!

Darts is officially a Sport!

.

THE Professional Darts Corporation have welcomed the decision by Sport England to recognize darts as a sport.

Just 24 hours after three of the PDC’s leading players joined over 50 MPs in a special exhibition at the Houses of Parliament, Sport England have announced that they are to officially class darts as a sport.

While Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all need to follow suit with their support before darts is finally recognized by UK Sport, PDC Chairman Barry Hearn praised Sport England’s actions.

“I’m delighted,” said Hearn. “It’s the news we have been waiting for and we believe darts deserves.

“It’s great news for our players that they are now officially seen as proper sportsmen, which is what they deserve for the hard work and dedication that they show week-in and week-out.

“This will help us continue to take darts to the next level, coming on the back of the PDC’s tremendously successful exhibition at the House of Commons.

“I’d like to specifically thank Colchester MP Bob Russell for his hard work in promoting this cause.”

Sport England Chief Executive Roger Draper, announcing the move, said:

"Darts is a sport played by many thousands of people across the country,

"The presentation of darts as a pub game has helped popularize its cult appeal but the reality is that it is played in locations ranging from schools to village halls, social clubs and sports centres.

"By taking the lead in recognizing the skills and social and community values associated with darts, we hope others will follow suit in the near future to complete its formal and official recognition as a sport."

Week #3 Bull has been posted. Flights of fancy are now available

For those who want to see darts on TV, there are new broadcasts being shown over the next month. They are from the Ladbrokes.com World Championships. Every Sunday for the next 4 weeks at 4pm on Fox Sports World they are showing new episodes. Those will be rebroadcast the following Monday and Tuesday as well. So turn on your TV and catch some unbelievable dart action!

(3-8-05)

Week #2 Bull has been posted but it's not the usual Bull that everyone is used to. Dave Valentine has been very busy and hasn't had a chance to do all of the flights of fancy, low darts, Points per night etc... Hopefully next week you will all get to see the usual stats but for this week, bare with it once again.
The ADO Regional event was held on Sunday this past weekend. Mick Farrell, Wayne Jessup, Erik Schiefen, and myself (Phil O'Neill) were the only players from SB who participated. We had 6 other men from Southern California who played. Some GREAT darts were thrown all day long. Unfortunately for us SB guys, we didn't make it to the semis. Mick ended up with 6, Phil 5, Wayne 3, and Erik 0. Robert Preston (your Regional ADO Rep) went on to win the event and will be going to Charlotte NC for the Nationals in April. Congrats to Bob.

(3-1-05)

First week under the ole' belt in a new season that sees 2 new teams joining the league. That's fantastic! With Curly's and Carpenters taking a break, it's great that we have 2 new team's joining up to fill in the gaps.
The bull has been posted under "Bull" at the top of the page. Adjustments are still being made so bear with us as we get these first couple of weeks off the ground. Also the schedule is still being done in pdf and should be in printable format soon.

Please keep in mind that there are a lot of players that are available as subs this year, myself included! If any of you are looking for a 5th player or sub, contact me as I have names and numbers of lots of available players.
