Fall 2009

(2/5/10)

Las Vegas Open, Qualifiers, Pat Murphy

Well we all made it back safe and sound from Las Vegas. It was great to see so many SB Darters make the trip out this year. But it was very disappointing to see so many NOT PLAY!! What's up with that?? Regardless it sure seemed everyone had a good time. Some didn't even sleep! (Johan!).

I was the only person who played in every event but Isaac and Andy at least gave it a go for most of them. For me I had some tough draws but you expect that going to Vegas. First round of Doubles Cricket Charles Braddish and I had to play Jim Widmayer and Timmy O'Gorman. WOW! But we gave them a hell of a game. We had our chances but we did end up losing. So did everyone else who had to play them as they made it all the way to the finals and lost to the team of the weekend Darin Young and John Part.

Then came singles. I had to play John Kramer. always fun to play John and he shot very well. I was hanging in there with him most of the games but he hit some nice 7 marks when I was hitting only 5's and he put me out.

The following day Charles and I made it through a couple of rounds and lost to a couple of guys I didn't know but Charles did. We ended up with a top 32. Unfortunately I wasn't called for the singles event for almost 2 hours. My warm ups were great but I was all thrown out by the time I was called and played terrible. The guy I played shot lights out though so it may not have mattered anyway. He finished the first game in 15 darts, the 2nd in 17. Hats off to him.

QUALIFIERS & PAT MURPHY

We have been holding the qualifiers every week and it has been great. Right now John Craig and John Sparrow have both qualified with at least one more person in from last week and enough money for a 4th in the pot. We will be sending at least 4, maybe up to 6 to the Regional event. And the Regional is being held in conjunction with the Pat Murphy Open in Chula Vista the weekend of March 26th. So you can get a whole weekend of darts in as well as a Regional!! Click on the tourney flyer in the tourney section of the site on the left.

League should be starting up in another couple of weeks!

(1/17/10)

ADO Qualifiers begin tonight

As most of you know that have played in the league a long time, 3-4 times a year I used to try to have an ADO Qualifier. For those of you who don't know what that is it's a one night or day competition where everyone pays $10 for a chance to qualifier for the next upcoming ADO Regional event. I gave up doing this about 2 years ago due to lack of participation but we're firing it up again thinking that we have a lot of new enthusiasm.

This time we're doing it differently though. In the past we would have one qualifier. Whomever won it went on to represent SB at the Regional for a chance to go to Nationals. This year we are going to have MULTIPLE qualifiers for each Regional. What this means is that we could be sending 3-4 guys from SB to each one!! And that will in turn get us as a host for one of the Regional's like we used to be!

So starting tonight we begin. $10 and you get in to a round robin mini tourney. This means you play every person 3 games regardless of whether you win or lose. So you get a lot of games for the $10!!! The winner is then a qualifier for the next Regional and is NOT eligible to win the next one. This means the top shooters start to diminish as we have more Qualifiers which gives more people a chance!!

So tonight:

ADO Regional Qualifier
7PM
James Joyce
$10 buy in
Round Robin, all 501

PLEASE be there to support these!!! We have a plan that may or may not work to reduce the entry fee for future ones. Stayed tuned for info on that.

San Diego Memorial

Had a nice time at the San Diego Memorial shoot this past weekend. Only Gary Bixler and myself made it down from our area (including Ventura). Was surprised more people didn't come down. I hope more people from our area support the event next year because it's a really fun shoot! As usual, the tourney ran very smoothly and a great time was had by all. With the exception of a LOT of really stupid arguments that occurred and the typical tirade expected by the usual suspects, it really was a fun time. Gary and I really didn't play well at all in our Doubles matches. Seems all of our good darts were thrown when warming up and when it came time for the match they just weren't there. In the singles however I was playing very well but ran out of gas. Got 2 top 16's and was not unhappy when I lost because they were GREAT games that could have gone either way. The extra bonus at the end of the day was me getting the authentic Phil "The Power" Taylor shirt!! Very cool. A little big on me but very worthy of a great collectors item.

DUES DUES DUES

Hopefully you all will continue to see your scores on the Bull. Dues were due last week and Erik has vowed to keep points unless you pay up. Make sure to get your checks in tonight to not allow that to happen.

(10-12-09)

Don't forget dues!

Week 2 is tomorrow and all dues are due! Please bring one check to give to Andy tomorrow night. $140 per team.

I was glad to see the showing from the league this past weekend in support of Ventura tourney. A really fun time I think was had by all. I know I didn't play too well. Got a top 8 on one day of doubles but other than that played mediocre to far less than. I think Boston Mark finished well in the singles cricket on the 2nd day but I left early. Next year I hope to see even more people come. I will say that SB had more people than they even did from there league though so I was happy to see that!

Week 1 done

I apologize to everyone that the bull wasn't posted sooner. I had a hell of a last week!!! First of all I witnessed a suicide off of Cold Spring Bridge. If you're interested I'll share the story with you sometime but let me say it was NOT cool and really affected me. To the point I was losing stuff all this last week and forgetting things. One of which was my computer!! I left it in SF this past weekend and just got it back. Hence the late posting of the Bull.

Anyway, hope everyone who played last week had fun and enjoys the rest of this short season. Take a look under Bull and you ca see the results.

Have fun and shoot em straight!

Fall 2009 Season Begins!

Well hopefully everyone had a nice summer but still continued to practice your darts because the new season begins tomorrow! We have managed to get 9 teams for this short season. Again, the Fall season is very short in that you play everyone only one time. That means every match counts a lot!

The new schedule is NOW posted!!You will all be getting your packages at tomorrow nights matches.

Also, please keep in mind we have two California tourneys happening!! Next weekend is the San Francisco Open. Te flyer has been posted under the tourney schedule. The following weekend you ALL should be going to and that is the 2nd Annual Gold Coast Shootout in Ventura. It's a really great time and they need our support. Even just go down for one day if you can't do the whole weekend. The tourney schedule has been posted.

Hope every has a fun season. Check back here soon for more info

President's Notes

I’m back. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m the new old president.  After 3 years and 6 seasons, I’ve decided to come back full stride.  There will be a few changes to how things are done around here but for the most part, its business as usual.  I’m looking forward to this season and the events in the near future.

There are several new teams as well as new players, some you may recognize.  We have a new venue at The Santa Barbara Brewing Company which should fit nicely into the downtown proximity of venues. This will be the “short” season where we play each other once followed by the playoffs. This puts the playoffs in December with the “long” season starting in January.

This season there will not be any faxing of scoresheets. Leave them at the venue. I will pick them up personally at the end of the night.

Dues are now due. Please make one check per team payable to the Santa Barbara Dart Association or S.B.D.A. There will be a two week grace period for collection due to Byes or forgetfulness. If dues are not paid by the third week, your team scores, wins and mvp points, will not count until payment. No Exceptions. This has been a difficult situation in years past and it ends now.

The league will be buying new dartboards for the venues. We just haven’t been able to do it yet. We should have them by the second or third week. Please be patient.

In the very near future, we will again have the All-Star Challenge against Ventura, ADO qualifiers and maybe more. Watch for flyers and check the website often.

I will be starting the Hill Climb singles league in the next couple of weeks so if you haven’t signed up or would like more information, come see me. I’ll be at the James Joyce this week.

That’s it for now. Hope this answers most of the questions about this season. If not, ask me.

                                                          See you on the Oche!

                                                                   Erik
